St. Anthony and St. Ann Religious Education
The faith formation of children is vital to their spiritual development and to the growth of the Church. Children come to know God first through their parents. As Pope Paul VI once said, The Parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of the faith. We know the church plays a key role in the faith education of children as well. In an effort to strengthen the faith formation of our children St. Anthony and St. Ann will be combining their religious education programs beginning in the fall of 2016. For the last several years St. Anthony and St. Ann have had a combined Confirmation ceremony. After much prayerful discernment Father Alvin Leblanc, Pastor of St. Ann’s Father Alphonso Fontana, Pastor of St. Anthony’s have concluded that our children will be better served by bringing our programs together. This combined program will take place at St. Anthony School. It will be transformed into the St. Anthony/ St. Ann Religious Education Center.
Sister Regina Arena, an alumni of St. Anthony high school and a member of the community of the Religious Teachers of St. Lucy Filippini, will be the Director of the St. Anthony/St. Ann Religious Education Program. Sister Regina is a certified teacher, former principal and currently the Director of Religious Education program at St. Ann’s. Prior to her seven years as Director of Religious Education at St. Ann, Sister Regina was also a DRE at St Joseph, Winsted.
She also established the Religious Education Program at St. Maron Church, a Maronite Rite Catholic Church, in Torrington where she was later named as an advisor of the Religious Education Program. She also presented workshops to the catechists in the Diocese of St. Maron.
